Rosebud County Search and Rescue is a volunteer-driven organization headquartered in Forsyth, Montana. We provide specialized search, rescue, and medical emergency response across one of the most rugged and remote terrains in the state.

Our team responds to missing persons, wilderness incidents, medical emergencies, and natural disaster support — always at no cost to those we serve. We train continuously so that when seconds count, we're ready.

Specialized response for
every kind of emergency

From mountain searches to technical rescues, our volunteers are trained across multiple disciplines to handle the full spectrum of wilderness and rural emergencies.

Wilderness Search

Systematic grid and track-based search operations across vast backcountry terrain, using K-9 teams, air support coordination, and ground trackers.

Technical Rescue

Rope systems, confined space extraction, avalanche response, and swift-water rescue — deployed when standard access is impossible.

Medical Emergency Response

Wilderness EMTs and first responders provide on-scene stabilization, patient packaging, and coordinated transport for remote medical incidents.

Missing Person Searches

Rapid deployment for vulnerable missing persons — children, elderly, and at-risk individuals — using canine units and human tracking specialists.

Community Education

Free safety workshops, backcountry preparedness classes, and youth outreach programs to help residents and visitors stay safe in the field.

Disaster Support

Backup search operations, logistical support, and mutual aid during floods, severe storms, and other large-scale emergencies across the region.

Protecting the rugged heart
of eastern Montana

Rosebud County covers over 5,000 square miles of prairie, badlands, river corridors, and mountain foothills. Our jurisdiction includes parts of the Big Belt Mountains, the Little Bighorn River watershed, and vast stretches of remote rangeland where help can be hours away.

We coordinate closely with the Montana Department of Transportation, local sheriff's offices, and neighboring SAR units to ensure comprehensive coverage across the region — day or night, in any weather.
